Jim Fleury
Senior Operations Instructor

As a Senior Operations Instructor at Oyster Creek, Jim Fleury understands the value of training. Each station operator must complete an extensive 16-18 month training and certification process and at least 192 hours of continuing training every year. Fleury and his fellow operations instructors are responsible for training control room operators, operations supervisors and equipment operators to ensure their work is conducted safely and efficiently.

Additionally, Fleury serves as the Training Department Representative to the Station Ownership Committee. In this capacity, Fleury works with other committee members to screen all equipment issues. When a concern arises, the committee determines the priority of the work and who should address and resolve the problem.

Fleury joined Oyster Creek in 2001. Previously, he worked as a supervisor at an electronics manufacturer that produced precision test equipment.

Fleury’s experience in nuclear energy came from serving eight years in the United States Navy where he worked on submarines. He also served as a reactor operator instructor at a Department of Energy reactor prototype and earned a Master Training Specialist Designation.

Oyster Creek provides Fleury with a rewarding work environment. “I enjoy working in a challenging environment that maintains high standards for technical competence,” said Fleury.

As a New Jersey native, Fleury and his wife enjoy taking their three kids to the beach and spending time with their extended families that also live in New Jersey.

“Because my family lives in New Jersey, its air quality is important to me,” said Fleury. “Oyster Creek’s ability to generate electricity while producing near zero emissions means cleaner air for New Jersey.”
