Oyster Creek
is a dedicated community partner. Plant employees and its
parent company, Exelon
Corporation, actively support New Jersey's communities
through financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteerism.
Some highlights of Oyster Creek's philanthropic
efforts include:
- Raising $180,000 in
employee contributions for the United Way in 2005. Funds
raised through the annual drive support health and human
services, environmental organizations and other area non-profit
organizations and are distributed throughout the plant's
neighboring communities.
- Donating $80,000 to
the "Sport Fish Fund," a not-for-profit organization that
administers the reef-building fund. The donation was used
to construct a 46-acre patch reef within the Barnegat
Light Reef, located 3.5 nautical miles offshore of Barnegat
Lighthouse. The NJ Department of Environmental Protection
Division of Fish and Wildlife oversees the Artificial
Reef Program.
- Purchasing a boat for the Rutgers
Cooperative Extension Service Clam Restoration Project.
The project team is working to re-establish
clam beds in the Barnegat Bay. The project team will use
this boat to more effectively implement this and other
important bay environmental projects into the future.
- Partnering with Drexel University to
track sea turtles, which are rescued at the plant. The
turtles recoup at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center,
before being returned to their habitat.
- Donating $5,000 to
the New Jersey Audubon Society in recognition for the
society's efforts
