FORKED RIVER, N.J. - Oyster Creek Generating Station has launched a
new Internet site to make information and documents about license extension more
widely accessible. The address is www.OysterCreekLR.com .
OysterCreekLR.com is designed to help the public understand the license renewal
process, keep abreast of license renewal events and announcements, ask questions
of AmerGen Energy Co., provide feedback and download reports and documents.
AmerGen announced on Feb. 19 that it intends to ask the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission to extend Oyster Creek's 40-year operating license for 20 years. The
current license expires in 2009. The commission would grant an extension only
after a thorough and satisfactory study of plant safety, equipment and environmental
impacts. AmerGen expects to submit an application in mid-2005. Regulatory review,
which includes a series of public meetings, would take up to 30 months.
"With the added attention license renewal is getting in New Jersey, we know that
many people are curious about Oyster Creek," station Vice President Bud Swenson
said. "We want to make accurate, factual information available to as many people
as we can."
The Web site contains data, background information and links to related regulatory
and license renewal sites. AmerGen is committed to an open and transparent process
and will continue to add information, including posting various reports and other
documents, as Oyster Creek's application process advances over the next four
years.
